# App Updates

> How HyperWhisper updates itself on macOS and Windows, and how to check for updates manually.

HyperWhisper checks for updates automatically and installs them with a single click. You don't need to babysit version numbers.

    HyperWhisper uses [Sparkle](https://sparkle-project.org), the standard auto-update framework for Mac apps.

    ## Automatic updates

    On launch (and periodically while running), the app checks the appcast at `https://www.hyperwhisper.com/appcast.xml`. When a new version is available, you'll see a prompt with the release notes — click **Install Update** and HyperWhisper relaunches into the new version.

    ## Checking manually

    Click the menu bar icon and choose **Check for Updates...**. If you're on the latest version, you'll see a confirmation. Otherwise the update prompt appears.

    ## Disabling auto-checks

    If you'd rather control update timing yourself, untick **Automatically check for updates** in the Sparkle dialog. You can still trigger a manual check at any time via **Check for Updates...**.

    HyperWhisper uses [NetSparkle](https://github.com/NetSparkleUpdater/NetSparkle), the Windows equivalent of Sparkle.

    ## Automatic updates

    On launch, the app checks the appcast for a newer version. When one is available, you'll see a notification with the release notes and an **Install** button. The new version downloads, the app closes, and the installer runs automatically.

    ## Checking manually

    Right-click the tray icon and choose **Check for Updates**. If you're on the latest version, you'll see a confirmation; otherwise the update prompt appears.

## Release channels

HyperWhisper currently ships a single stable channel — there's no separate beta or insider track. Releases go through internal testing before being pushed to all users.

## Rolling back

If a new release breaks something for you, please email [support@hyperwhisper.com](mailto:support@hyperwhisper.com) with details — that's the fastest way to get a fix out, and we can point you to the previous installer in the meantime.
